RESEARCH OVERVIEW
We work across modeling and experiment, from the fundamental physics of transport up to working devices. Four directions we focus on:
Bipolar Membranes
Membranes that hold a pH gradient inside a device, opening cleaner routes to electrosynthesis and to recovering carbon and nitrogen from waste.
Multi-Scale Modeling
Physics-based models of ion transport and catalysis in membrane-electrode assemblies, from the pore scale to the full reactor.
Seawater Electrolysis & Carbon Capture
Cost-effective devices that draw hydrogen fuel and captured carbon directly from seawater.
Electrochemical Synthesis
Reactor architectures that turn waste CO2, air, and water into fuels and industrial chemicals.
Our work spans experiment, data science, and theory, and reaches from basic science to applied engineering. We approach each problem from several of these directions at once, so fundamental understanding and working devices advance together.
